My 245 Music was having the same issues with the HRM working for a while and then just stopped working at all. However, I noticed that when I include HRM tracking on my watch face (I used one of the default ones), it appears that that HRM keeps tracking as it normally should (somehow this keeps the watch actively tracking your pulse).
